A VPN connection (virtual private network) allows you to access the otherwise closed HWR network from home or other external locations. After a successful connection, you can use shared servers and services, such as accessing your data.

Set up VPN
To use the VPN of HWR Berlin, you must first download, install, and configure the Watchguard Client software.
For login, use only your HWR username (without @hwr-berlin.de) and the corresponding password.
When using the VPN tunnel, all network traffic is routed through the firewall of HWR Berlin to ensure that unauthorized persons cannot read any data. This is particularly relevant when you connect from unsecured networks such as internet cafes or airports.
When you have finished working in the HWR VPN, remember to disconnect the connection. As long as your device is connected to a VPN, only this network may be available to your device. This can result in not being able to use local network printers and similar devices until the VPN is disconnected again.
