Especially if you have a laptop as a work device, the energy settings of Windows 10 & 11 have become rather complex and give you many options for customization. The main aim here is to achieve a good balance between energy saving and practical use.
Windows 10
- Search for energy or power options
- Click on Edit power options

Windows 10
- These are options for battery operation or via AC Power Adapter or docking station.
- The displays should turn off after 5-10 minutes of inactivity.
- Standby mode with AC Power plugged in can be set to 30-45 minutes of inactivity.
- Confirm your settings with “Save changes”

Windows 10 Closing the lid
- Click on Power options in the address bar at the top
- Choose what closing the lid does
- We recommend to set “Do nothing” when closing the lid while AC Power is connected
