Password Change

This guide provides tips and instructions for changing your password for your central HWR credentials.

Delete saved passwords

First, you should delete all saved passwords from your devices because if you have old passwords saved and change your password nonetheless, it’s very easy for your account to get locked due to repeated incorrect logins.

This checklist will help you find all saved passwords

Please remember passwords for

  • eduroam Wi-Fi
  • Email
  • Moodle
  • S.A.M.
  • VPN
  • Mapped network drives (on personal computers via VPN)

either directly in the system or in software such as

  • Outlook
  • Thunderbird
  • Mail client of your smartphone/tablet
  • Firefox
  • Chrome
  • Safari

on all your devices such as

  • Smartphone
  • Tablet
  • Laptop
  • Desktop
  • Desktop/Laptop

The password for library services is not associated with the central credentials; it is changed through https://bibkey.hwr-berlin.de/ and is only valid in the library system. Only the initial access password is the same as the central credentials.

Now change the password for your account using one of the usual methods.

Please note the minimum length of 12 characters and the generally recommended guidelines for secure passwords:

  • Combination of numbers, special characters, and uppercase and lowercase letters
  • No words that can be found in dictionaries
  • No personal information (like the name of a pet, wedding date, etc.)
