Work device
Employees and full-time faculty at HWR Berlin are provided with a laptop, including a mouse and headset. To log into your device, use your username and the corresponding password.
Mobile work on a personal device is not supported by HWR due to data protection and IT security risks.
Phone
The Avaya Client software is required for making phone calls at a mobile workstation, as well as an appropriate license. The allocation of these resources and the permission to use them in a home office setting is at the discretion of departmental supervisors. It is important to note that the number of available licenses is limited.
Internet and network connection
The prerequisite for mobile work is an internet connection (LAN or WLAN) to access HWR’s systems.
VPN
Some services (such as the intranet or network drives) require a VPN connection. All mobile HWR devices are equipped with the necessary VPN client by default.
Terminal server
You can work on the terminal server at all times. Through the terminal server, you can access your drives, work with all Office products, use your Outlook, and access relevant specialized applications. We recommend working on the terminal server the entire time to ensure that interruptions in network connection or the VPN client do not adversely affect your work.
Terminal server access
Access to the terminal server is achieved via a remote desktop connection.
Here you can find information on accessing the terminal server. You will receive a work environment where you can work with Office, access your drives, and use Outlook.
Tips and suggestions
Fixed workstation
Create a fixed, ergonomic workspace with a comfortable chair and a well-lit desk. Keep the area tidy and free from personal distractions such as televisions or household items.
Define tasks
Before starting the day or week, define clear goals and tasks you want to accomplish. Prioritize them based on urgency and importance to ensure that critical tasks are completed first.
Fixed structure
Set fixed working hours. Start your day at the same time to establish a routine. Allocate time for reviewing emails and setting your priorities to begin the day in an organized manner.
Take breaks
Schedule regular breaks to promote mental and physical recovery. Stand up, stretch, or take a short walk to boost your productivity and prevent fatigue.
Team communication
Utilize tools like video conferencing, chat apps, and email to stay in regular contact with your team. Schedule virtual meetings and informal chats to maintain the exchange of ideas and collaboration.
Avoid distractions
Identify potential distractions and eliminate them by, for example, turning off notifications or setting “do not disturb” times. Stay focused by concentrating on one task at a time.
